Cheyenne to Casper Two buddies and me we were on the road Hitchhiking home from New Mexico When this trucker picked us up Just when we thought we were down on our luck He was barely hanging from the edge of disaster Talked all the way from Cheyenne to Casper We just sat there still As he told us about all the boys that he killed Chorus: But as long as I vent and take my medication These demons will hopefully stay at bay Because I’ve tasted blood and it’s better than love But I swear I’m going to beat this beast someday He said, I’ve to talk it out until it goes away If I keep it inside my nerves will decay And so he rambled on Took us back with him to Vietnam With blood on my hands and guilt in my soul Tried to tell myself I was a big time hero He was just a kid not more than 10 years old Blew him away like in the picture shows Chorus I could see it on his face how it had worn him through the years Bitter, mixed emotions, guilt, satisfaction, fear He took us through the grim reality of war He’d licked the lips of death and only wanted more His wife had been his savior, his perfect guiding light The one who brought him back to earth on those hellish sleepless nights And I could see it in his eyes his battle he’d someday win Come to grips with the world; find inner peace again Chorus He slowed big yellow Kenworth down We shook his hand and climbed back to the ground We thanked him for the lift; He thanked us for our ears Walked down the road with amazing souvenirs We’d been through it all on that 3-hour drive On that short stretch of time up interstate 25 Fear, hope, relief and the will to survive I can hear his voice a ringing; he’s happy to be alive Chorus

It Goes Away 04:01
It Goes Away I hear the sound of fading laughter As I walk into the parlor I see pious eyes averting And a hush that sounds like thunder It’s a fate that dances with me That will kiss me then dismiss me And curls me up so tightly where I’ll stay Till it goes away It goes away It goes away I crawl out of my covers Before the sun is rising Pack a sandwich and an apple The workday darkly looming And I wonder how I’m going to make it As I stumble through my doorway Then I smell that salty air and I’m okay It goes away It goes away It goes away I see you across the room a talking To some friends; you look right at me Something about your mannerisms Release me from my prison As I try to think of something witty I tell myself you’re way too pretty And all intelligent life inside my head just fades It goes away It goes away It goes away I hear the sound of fading laughter As I walk into the parlor I see pious eyes averting And a hush that sounds like thunder It’s a fate that dances with me That will kiss me then dismiss me And curls me up so tightly where I’ll stay Till it goes away It goes away It goes away It goes away It goes away It goes away It goes away

Rest Stops 02:39
This road is rough It ain't no highway Sure have hit some rough spots on the ride But this old road It's going our way And I sure do enjoy the ride With you right by my side Pull over in the shade In the grass beside the way I'd go just about anywhere for these rest stops any day Oh babe the car's in gear But we ain't going nowhere This muds too thick for our little car to pass through And we're running low on gas Staring up a mountain pass And getting stopped for driving way too slow So let's not push it so hard Give a rest to this old car Pull over for some time to stretch our legs And we'll get an oil change And detail everything Even damn fine cars still need to be maintained (chorus) Now it rides like a dynaglide As we cut right through the night The stars outline the snowy peaks ahead Miles on the markers fall We'll be home in no time at all But right now this trip is all that's on my mind (chorus)

New Year’s Eve I don’t need much to get me through my day I don’t want to rush and let this feeling slip away Where I’m going to it’s so hard to tell I feel my past is serving me well I’ caught in a rift, the current is swift I feel my spirit beginning to lift On two Monday nights in the November rain I looked in your eyes, felt the calm you sustain Through oceans of impossible blue I felt something entirely new Can’t quite nail it down, just a hint of a sound Of that melody coming around Chorus: Now, all that I need is a warm place to go When the fire burns out and dark nights grow cold A sweet simple theme rolling around in my head A coat and a good pair of shoes A little something to eat, fresh air to breathe And someone to kiss on New Years Eve In that big barroom mirror, I see you sitting next to me I turn to look you in the eye; I see the barstool is free These beers are going down way too smooth I’m lost again and dreaming of you The feelings I felt, the kiss that you dealt And how the ice was beginning to melt Chorus

Did that river call you in Did you think that we could swim Were you just playing a trick on Johnny Cause he did just what you asked And that river took him fast And you were gone before they found his body Some years later on I heard your name around And I set my mind to find you I've wondered for years If your nights are full of tears Or if you could put that day behind you So won't you stay another day We'll turn this world around And we'll live like yesterday Before life brings us down In front of me you stand My dear and oldest friend You hardly recognize me And I ask you how you've been But you're not remembering Our friendship or even Johnny You're quick to strike a deal And suddenly I feel Your return is never coming My old friend has gone away My old friend has gone away So won't you stay another day We'll turn this world around And we'll live like yesterday Before life brings us down Now we're no longer children And you find yourself in prison This time there's nowhere to run to And those boyhood dreams we've started Have finally departed But I just can't let them go Lord help me let them go So won't you stay another day We'll turn this world around And we'll live like yesterday Before life brings us down And bad things come To those who wait With expectations Way too great This world has turned without me This world has turned around

Dark Eyes Have Seen the Light This cavernous pool of light Immersed in an island of woods Black opal receptive of despair Sunrays on the surface Cradled by chiseled stone Writing on the mossy edge Of an antique Vermont quarry Chorus: Dark Eyes have seen the light Burning through this filtered life Tried to come full circle But I took a wrong turn And it’s all coming back at me now Soothing a heart confused By the loss of a young soul mate Stirring the questions of why With a longing ache For how could you go and Leave me in these woods that way Looking through a darkened porous Vision of memory Chorus Chorus

Do it for Me 03:35
Do It for Me Love I keep asking myself What it means, where it leads Where it come from Can’t help but try to imagine What it could be and where it’s going Whenever I try to wrap myself around All those why’s and wherefores and what ifs I come up with no answers Just this great big headache Because all I want to do Is wrap myself around You My head it doesn’t get no matter how I try There’s just too may questions I miss My brain it can’t compute it but my body never lies You and me sweet baby equal bliss You do it for me in so many ways You do it for me, you’re the sun in my days You do it for me when lights are low You do it for me, that’s all I know The night I first kissed you the future looked bright Though I’ve been wrong a time or two, this time I was right You’re the purr in my motor, the sooth in my soul The coffee in my cup of cream, the sugar in my bowl You do it for me in so many ways You do it for me, never fails to amaze You do it for me, you make me laugh and cry You do it for me, I don’t know why You’re the wishbone in my wishes, you’re the lump in my throat You’re the spice in my kitchen, you’re the bridge for my moat You’re the alpha in my Romeo, the laugh from my belly You’re the charge in my batteries, the toast for my jelly So don’t you quit me baby, don’t you ever skip town Don’t stop kissing me or laying me down Because you do it for me, you always will You do it for me, you’re my number one girl You do it for me, you know it’s true You do it for me and I do it for you You do it for me and I do it for you You do it for me and I do it for you

WHEN I'M GONE I've got good news, really good news, news for you Will you still love me when I'm gone Look at those sunny skies, sun's so bright it burns your eyes Will you still love me when I'm gone Can you smell the rain showers as they blow into town Will you still love me when I'm gone I've been traveling too, traveled round this world for you Will you still love me when I'm gone And this time will be the best, smell like a brand new cedar chest Will you still love me when I'm gone Can you see the air rising and bubble from the ground Will you still love me when I'm gone Cause I'll still love you when the world turns upside down Yes I'll still love the ground you walk on And nothing will ever come between your love and me, woman Yes I'll still love you when I'm gone Dig deep real deep, dig so deep down through the peat Will you still love me when I'm gone And dark skies roll in, dirt rolls over my skin Will you still love me when I'm gone TALK ABOUT HEAVEN There are all sorts of things in this natural world But they ain't got nothing on my little girl They talk about heaven They talk about heaven They talk about heaven But it ain't got nothing on you You fell in love, or so you thought Stole a thousand kisses, but you got caught (chorus) I met her on the banks of the Arkansas Was the sweetest little thing I ever saw She had hair of fire and her eyes were blue I told her I loved her, but she already knew (chorus) I've seen the Mona Lisa and the Taj Mahal Been to the great wall of China and Niagara Falls Seen the Sistine Chapel, watched Milton Borough Saw a little grain of sand turn into a pearl (chorus)

Every Pointed Star Shades of night descending Are falling long across the yard The autumn leaves are dancing in their red and gold And the air is cold and hard The leaves are but a memory Of a brittle, fragile boy Who’s dreaming as that burning ball sinks to the sea Of his own Helen of Troy Is that mars there a hovering In the fading western light I can hear my mama calling Through the fast approaching night And the ground is getting colder As I lie back in the grass And all those diamonds start to twinkle at me all at once And it comes upon so fast Chorus: On a clear autumn night every pointed star Is driven right through my heart Unthinkable thoughts thrust from the sky Lovely but so deadly sharp And as the night falls upon us And the music starts to peak I’m stricken by the twilight And the needles in my feet And the ground is getting colder As we lie naked in the grass And all those diamonds start to twinkle at us all at once And I’m right back in the past Chorus The light, the sound, the smell, the temperature Was just the same as it was before I shifting through a consciousness so pure In fall when everything is dying to a desperate gray and brown I can taste it like it was yesterday Chorus Chorus

about

During the recording of this album a lot of life has happened, two children have been born and three of us have lost out fathers. Music speaks strongly to the continuum that makes the world at times both a delight and a burden. A hardy heartfelt thanks goes out to our family, friends and musical community that support us and make our lives richer.
